Now more than ever, it's become near impossible to NOT know what you have with the internet. Especially for a brand like Rickenbacker, who does not have a budget version. So whatever the deal is with that ad, it's not real in one way or another. I don't think a thief would ask under $1,000 and that's including Guitar Center!
More than likely whoever bought it isn't getting a bass at all, maybe the case with a picture of the bass inside!

If it sounds too good to be true, it is. People who think they can get something for nothing are the easiest ones to screw.

I played with a guitar player who got a "Gibson" Les Paul Custom for $1,200 off of eBay. Of course when it showed up it was a Chinese piece of junk. When he disputed the sale the seller swore up and down that it was a real Gibson, then he claimed he didn't know it was fake, then when eBay forced him to give a refund, he tried to sell it to my guitarist for $300.

I found a Spector a couple weeks on Mercari that was at too good of a price. Whenever I find a listing like that, I take the primary picture, and reverse image search it on google and often find a Reverb listing (current or old) which lets me know what's up.

Genuine photo of a real 4003s in Midnight Blue or Azureglo, which means nothing these days. Aliexpress is notorious for using real Ric photos to sell cheap counterfeits, which it would have to be at that price. If you see any Ric, anywhere, for sale for less than $1500, it's probably either a Japanese "Lawsuit" bass (some of which were excellent, BTW) or a scam. This one's a scam.
