Does this seem to be a pretty legit Modulus Quantum 5 to buy?

The more I look at it, the fishier it seems.
Any self-respecting Modulus owner would know and state what kind of wood the top was...and "bass-mid-treble and tone controls"? No volume or pan?

good price but be warned that pre truss rod moddy necks do in fact warp. And in weird ways. Not "all the touring pros" play them either. I'd still take it, but if you have to replace the neck be prepared to spend a bit more that 800 bucks. I had a no truss VJ and it had no issues while I had it, but when I get another it will definetly have a truss rod, just in case.

Definitely try it out before buying it- it's rare, but they do once in a while warp. If you are the original owner Modulus will fix it, but if not, I'm pretty sure you're screwed.
No truss rod on that bass, assuming it really is from '91. Two possible issues, as I understand things. The neck can warp, but also the laminated layers that comprise the fingerboard can separate. The latter was the problem on my Q6. The 'original owner, we'll help you' concept, as mentioned above is new to me. Not that it applies here anyway, but I was the original owner of my bass and was...screwed.
I can't really tell from the pics, but this one looks like it has the three-band pre-amp, which is a huge plus. Also looks like an alder body, which is another plus, IMO. If this is the kind of bass you're after, I'd definitely check it out...agreeing with the posters above me that you should really focus on the neck and fingerboard. Good luck!

I do not know the construction materials of many of my basses..
Modulus does have a limited market.. many craigslisters would think it's a cheap imitation..

Honestly, I could care less if it was stolen.

This. And when they do warp it tends to be pretty drastic. Still, considering the price and the 3 band eq (it appears), this is one hell of a find, and replacement necks are available, but not at all cheap. There are a few threads about this floating around, but original owners have been able to get them fixed IIRC. If you buy it used you will be on your own.
At that price and given that listing is a month old...the bass is probably gone.
