Does this sound too wooly?

It’s sounds great BUT it’s a woolly sound for sure.

My suggestion would be to take the dry line out of the Sansamp (which I think it’s best feature 🫣), and run that line to an AGuliar AG preamp, for a true clean tone. Then you can blend the two to taste.
 
Back when recording engineers wore white lab coats the producer might hear that bass tone and shout for “10 at 10” , ie 10 db at 10k.

I also like it just fine but suspect it may sound a little too dark in a mix.
I just checked, there is nothing at 10k, nothing at all. When recording a SansAmp output, the sound is pretty much baked in as far as I know.

Of course not! Lots of consoles had a shelving high so that shelf could be boosting much further down. We are deeply spoiled with tons of EQ options.

Remember, white coats, ashtray on console etc....
