Does width of the neck impact tone/sound?

and how often would you use said bass in a real life situation without being amplified?

if adding electronics adds too many variables then surely the difference in tone caused by the difference in neck is going to be negligible to the overall sound when amplified?

Neck mass, rigidity, material consistency and sectional density absolutely affect tone and sustain, but within the numerous other variables attendant to the instrument's design, they do not do it in ways that are entirely predictable.

But, yes, neck width can have a direct effect on these factors.

Think about it.

heheheh mongo2, kinda looks like a freeway dont it?

I say, the guys talking about an "Electric" bass here, not accoustic. That being understood, I believe that the EQ/electronics on a bass can pretty much make your bass sound like what ever sound your looking for. Whether a person can afford the sound that their looking for is also an important factor. :hmm:



Accoustic bass and the resonance there of is a whole different monster... (MY 2 CENTS)

Woods can act pretty weird,.... you can have two basses built identical to eachother, and they can sound different. I dont believe the width of the neck will make much of a difference in this particular case.
