I have 3/4 Spiro lights. I’ve tried Zyex Med and EP Light. I’ve also had an Innovation 140B. All three seemed to match tension-wise.
I thought the Zyex was closest to the Spiro in tone, but with a bit more fundamental. It was what I was looking for getting away from the Spiro G. If I didn’t have issues with them breaking on my travel bass I’d likely have given them a shot—and also the light gauge.
The EP seemed alright, didn’t have the whine of the Spiro, but seemed to lack in fundamental. On my bass it’s kinda blah for some reason. I really dig them when I hear others though. Maybe it’s just odd from the drivers seat.
The Inno has a great fundamental and actually sounded quite nice to me as well (I never understood the ‘plastic’ comments from some), although it was a starker contrast going to the Spiros.
