Don Shula...RIP

I grew up in the Baltimore area during the time of Shula and personally never got over the loss of "my team." RIP Don Shula.
My younger brother was a huge Dolphins fan. He's been waiting in heaven for a few years now to shake Shula's hand.

Man. Don Shula is a giant to me. I grew up in the Miami area, I was just 7 when Shula took over the Dolphins and instantly turned them from a struggling expansion team into winners. Seriously, here's the progression:
1969: 3-10-1
Shula takes over
1970: 10-4, lose in divisional playoffs
1971: 10-3-1, go to Super Bowl and lose
1972: Only perfect season, 17-0 including the SB win-and most of those wins were with a 40-year-old backup QB
1973: 12-2, another SB title
They probably would have won more, but Paul Warfield (#1 receiver, Hall of Famer)), Larry Csonka (#1 RB, Hall of Famer), and Jim Kiick (3rd down back) all left for the new World Football League.
Shula took two more QBs (not just Marino, but David Woodley!) to the Super Bowl in the '80s, drastically changing the offense along the way to fit the talent. In all, he's not only the winningest coach in NFL history (with a 66.5% winning percentage), he's the only one to take 5 different QBs to the Super Bowl (Unitas and Morrall with the Colts and Griese with the Dolphins were the others).

I wasn't exactly thrilled when they entered the AFL...when they left Baltimore, I was done.
