OK, I'm still learning it, but it won't be ready in time for the show where I'm supposed to be playing it at (this Friday). Instead, I'm going to be playing Mr P.C. and I think Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, and maybe a few other tunes. So far, I don't have anybody to play with onstage, so it looks like I'm going solo

Goodbye Porkpie Hat is tough tune, especially if you don't just revert to a basic blues or two chord vamp. It was the first head that I learned.
It is nice, but the tunes you are picking won't teach you so much about other tunes.
I would go for less hip and more simple 32 bar tunes that you can learn more about basic song structures.

update:
I've only learned half of the head so far, motsly because I've been so busy, and I'm kinda lazy. I've memorized what I know, and so far it's been really helpful in developing my 4-fingered left hand technique.

Any people out there play efficiently with 3 fingers for these tough bop heads?

Out of the three Parker heads I've worked on, Scrapple from the Apple works fine using either 3 finger or 4 finger technique. With four fingers you don't even have to shift and it's also doable using more Simandl type fingering (although much tougher for me to work up the tempo). Ornithology is fine for me using three fingers until the chromatic stuff the at the end the second time though (I think it's played on piano on origninal recordings).
I would love to see someone use a 3 finger and Simandl Esq. technique for Donna Lee though!

Sweet! If it's no trouble I would get a kick out of seeing it. Maybe I'll get enough done with the bow tonight so after I can tape myself doing it with 4 finger. Iv'e been putting it off because I wanna be able to play a coherent solo if I'm gonna tape it and I have not spent the time playing with the melody and the changes.
