DOOM FUZZ

I know this topic sees a lot of light, but I'm having a hard time deciding on the right fuzz for playing doom/stoner metal/sludge.

I had a Big Muff but ended up selling it. I've tried many times to find a Supercollider or Attack Goat, but it's damn near impossible. The Bluebeard proves even more difficult. I could order a Battering Ram for about $190 US, but what are some other options (that are somewhat readily available)?

I've tried a few others (Boss, DigiTech, etc.) and was not satisfied. I'm trying to get an Electric Wizard/MORS (talkbass name drop!) feel. Matt has an amazing tone and he has a Supercollider if memory serves me.

Some other pedals I've been interested in:
B:ASSMASTER
Russian Big Muff
Tortuga Sasquatch
Tortuga Yeti
Devi Ever Godzilla

The Godzilla seems like it would be good if I want more of a noise feel to it.

I will be using tube amps (when I get my hands on a Sunn or Mesa) and running multiple cabinets if it changes anything.

Seems like most in the genre play a Big Muff or various clones, usually the Russian green or black Muffs since they have a little more low end. If you're handy with a soldering iron, get the Big Muff kit from General Guitar Gadgets and solder up their GGG-tuned Big Muff circuit (it's pretty much a Bluebeard).

Not fuzz, but look into the Catalinbread SFT. That might sit better in the mix.

I play Stoner/Doom

And i have tried a LOT of fuzz pedals and even though some came close to the sound i had in my head not one of them managed to quite get there, they were either to muddy (lacking note definition) or lost too much bottom end, or were simply to fizzy and to hard to control with picking dynamics vs. finger......so...

(and i'm giving away my trade secrets here) I blend a Vodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, a Devi Ever Dark Boost, and an EHX BBM.....all running at once and finally.....finally i have the sound i always wanted (well to be totally honest I also run two amps onstage and in the studio one clean and one dirty)

now if i could find a pedal that had Boost, OD, Fuzz and the ability to blend in the original clean signal....all at once with independant controls for each effect/section......(note this is a hint to pedal builders...lol)

I would buy that...lol

Fuzz pedals can react totally differently when you use different basses. With my setup, I've found great tones using a Peavey T-40 into an Xotic BB into a Supercollider with both dirt pedals in blender set to 80% wet. I also have a Yamaha BB415 that has a hotter output and deeper lows which upsets the Supercollider, yet sounds great going into a Fender Sub-Lime. The Sub-Lime is relativeley tame, but the low end absolutely roars and it can get quite gnarly if you boost into it yet never craps out with a hot signal like the Supercollider can.

I was disappointed with the SFT (at high gain at least), sounds too much like a blown speaker with not much low end; the EQ is before the clipping section, so you can max out the bass knob but it just gives you more distortion rather than more bass. Next thing on the list for me to try out is a GGG-Tuned muff kit from General Guitar Gadgets or maybe a Way Huge Swollen Pickle.

I've found my ultimate doom as either one of two ways,...

clean into LS2 with supercollider in loop,... sounds awesome to get that grindy doomy sound yet lots of note definition

or if im going all out I turn on the PD7 in OD mode as a fizz to run underneath with the supercollider sound running on top... required a bit of blending and changing of levels for this one but in the right setting sounds awesome,...

its not AS doomy,... more... hardcore breakdown? but also running a turbo rat in a blend with clean to me was just EPIC hardcore breakdown sounds to my ears,... as usual YMMV

I hate everyone with a Supercollider because I can't get my hands on one. There's none on eBay and apparently last three hours on here if they are for sale.

I've looked at a lot of the pedals on bassfuzz.com and watched all of the Youtube videos. The ones I like are near impossible to get my hands on. :(

Soldering iron is not a problem, so I may even look into the GGG-tuned muff or this Megalith (I've never heard of, to be honest). I've looked into the Swollen Pickle, but maybe I'll look into again before making any decisions.

None of these pedals are available locally (aside from the average big muff) so I can only go by what I hear on Youtube or the reviews I read.

Getting your hands on a Supercollider is not difficult at all, just order from the Earthbound myspace.

Their myspace says, "For Supercollider ordering info go to http://earthboundaudio.blogspot.com/2009/10/supercolliders-are-here.html", and when I go there it says they're out of stock. If I'm missing something, just smack me.

rcubed mentioned the Catalinbread SFT. This has a pretty nice sound to it as well, but if getting my hands on the Supercollider will be easier than expected, I will certainly get ne.

ahhh yeah just checked, looks like temporarily out of stock...
could always try emailing or pming to ask if theres a date for new releases?

The Beast is a Supercollider with a couple of feedback loops or something, can't remember exactly. Either way it is in essence a Supercollider, and will do the same thing, along with some freak-out noise weirdness. Email Mark regarding the standard SC, he should get back to you.

The SFT is a different beast (pun intended) altogether...
