Advancement in time and rhythm isn't just about a historical timeline. My comments are not about this thread specifically, but, about Glasper/Dave/Etc. getting touted as "new" in the jazz world. Anyway, they are fine players, but, more solid and conservative in my view, not innovators by any means.
Also, the sources I quoted, specifically Max Roach predates the music you seem to think I rehash. Even Papa Jo was already far more advanced than boxed in pop rhythms.

The labeling often follows needs for placing a product more than being descriptive and true to the music and/or history.

Words like Neo New Jazz Soul etc often are used because the sound good and add some (false?) testimonial value. Little do they reflect the (true!) musical or historical facts.
