I htiought that was supposed to be more to do with Jasmine perfume worn by the ladies.Jazz, or “Jass” music, gestated(no pun intended)in the brothels of New Orleans, literally the ‘house music’, and drew from Ragtime, Blues, and N.O. Second Line horn bands. The Jass/Jazz part could have derived from “Jezabel”, slang for fallen woman, or possibly a derivation of, well, just substitute an ‘i’ for ‘a’, and you get the idea.
