Double Entendres

Is that a double entendre? because I don’t know what the hell else it could refer to

That’s pretty much a SINGLE entendre!

My favourite rock and roll double entendres go right back to Big Joe Turner’s original version of Shake Rattle and Roll...

“I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
I'm like a one-eyed cat peepin' in a seafood store
Well, I can look at you till you ain't no child no more...

...I get over the hill and way down underneath
I get over the hill and way down underneath
You make me roll my eyes, even make me grit my teeth.”

Ever asked yourself just exactly what a “one-eyed cat” actually is?

And that merges with Big Mama Thorton and “You Ain’t Nothin’ But A Hound Dog”.

There's a long tradition of double entendre in both R&B and calypso especially. Some calypso and reggae:

Mighty Sparrow (and others): "The Big Bamboo" and "Saltfish"
Lord Kitchener: "Doctor Kitch" and "My Pussin'"
General Degree" "Pianist"
Bob Marley: "Stir It Up"

"Saltfish, I'm sure every man in here already eat it..."

Apparently "Tutti Frutti" as actually performed live by Little Richard, as opposed to the cleaned-up record, was pretty raunchy. I'll just say the first line was reported as "Tutti frutti, good booty" and leave it at that. The remainder of the exercise is left to the student.

Not a title or lyrics, but last night I heard this:

"OK, guys, now play it MOLTO TESTISSIMO!"
