Hello all -
So, a few weeks ago I was in a music store out of town and found a VM Fretless Jazz by Squier. I was pumped because I had never even seen one in a store near where I live. I had read about them, they were cheap, and I wanted a fretless. Problem was, this thing had seen better days, the neck was bending inwards somewhat badly.
Well, I thought to myself, I have never seen one of these, and the problem wasn't so bad I thought I could repair it myself doing a simple truss rod adjustment. So I bought it and got some free stuff since it wasn't in the best shape.
I get back to my hometown, and start slowly adjusting the truss rod. After not quite 2 days it had straightened out pretty well, except near where the neck meets the headstock. It was still bending in somewhat terribly. Fortunately, the place I bought it from had a free setup as part of your purchase, so I went back to the store and handed them the bass for a free setup and made sure they knew about the neck issues (it was on the repair slip deal).
I just got the bass yesterday from a friend who picked it up and brought it to my hometown and it looks like they didn't do anything. Literally, no neck issues have even been touched, the string height looks completely unaffected, bridge hasn't been changed. Nothing.
So I call this place (it was NOT a guitar center) and I get some guy who I thought worked at Guitar Center. "Ohhhh bro, that sucks man... I'm sure they did something though duuuuuuude" blablabla. He told me a "string tech" would be in Saturday so I'm gonna be waiting at the doors for this (funny thing is last time I brought it in it was a Saturday).
Question is, what is the problem? Do you think the truss rod could be broken? Neck just a cheap PoS? I'm worried they won't take a refund or exchange since it is out of their return period policy on the receipt. I just have this sinking feeling they will "repair" it again and try to send me on my way. Should I tell them to take the thing back and not take any crap?
Thanks for any insight!
