Just a little something to fuel the GAS:

About 14.5 lbs, and the guitar neck is a little awkward to play.
In fact, the main problem seems to be that either you will compromise and have both necks at slightly uncomfortable playing heaights, or have one at your optimum and the other way off.
Mike Rutherford's 4001/620 doubleneck is a more effective combination with the guitar on top, but it just doesn't have the same aesthetic charm.

Still, it's good fun to have and play.
Really freaks out the Rush fans in the crowd.

kcole4001, 14.5 pds is too much but expected with maple body. Your right about never haveing either neck in best height position for playing so its compromise playing wise. And yup guitar on top bass on bottom is better arrangement from my experience to.

The body is thinner than regular RIC bodies, but it still heavy.
A nice wide Levy's strap and some decent rest before the gig and it's not a problem for me, but if I'm a bit tired before playing, my shoulder will be sore the next day, but that's after a full night playing also.

Almost forgot to mention, but both the guitar and bass have great tone!

kcole4001, that configuration actually would work great for me. I play bass a little higher than most guys, but it's comfortable for me that way. That would necessarily raise the guitar position to where it's a little more comfortable, too.

That in mind, I'll PM you with my shipping address...

First act is notorious for crap (unless you're just starting to play). Is their custom shop stuff actually good? And how much would it cost to have a double like that made?

I've been playing for 26 years and have played many basses over the years (hell, I've owned 7 Wals!) and I can assure you that the First Act Customs are some of my favorites. I recently sold a Delgada and the only reason I did was because the neck was too wide for me. In fact, I sold it to partially fund my next First Act with a slimmer radius neck!

Yah, about 25 grand worth of big bucks. Its at the Chicago Music Exchange currently.

They're usually in the $2000-ish+ range depending on options…and they are a true custom shop. Not bad for handmade USA if you ask me.

Well, that's better than Fender's. When I have the cash someday, I think I'll get a double neck made from them. Mike Rutherford Style. 12 string on top, 4 string bass on bottom.
