Dr. Bass Enclosures?????

I am looking for feedback from Dr. Bass enclosure users. How do you like them?

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone that uses a 212 or 310. I am considering purchasing one of these to be the one enclosure that does it all for me. It would be replacing a Ampeg Portabass 210 (too small) and a SWR Henry 8X8 (too big).

I have fond memories of the SWR Big Foot 2X12 that I owned in the 90's. I also really liked the sound of the Epifani UL 310 (series I) that I once tried.

You'll see some recent discussion of Dr. Bass cabs if you search "BL1580".
I personally love Dr. Bass products and am currently using a Neo BL1580 with a Neo BL1260.
If you're looking for something quickly, there was a Dr. Bass Concert Series (prototype) 2x12 on Ebay really cheap!!

Marc Serio is a great guy to deal with, the cabs sound fantastic and the build quality of the cabs is second to none. Most of the negative comments that you may read concerning Dr. Bass cabs is that it does take time to get them since they are built to order.

Just my $.02.

I use an RX310 and I love it.I used to use Eden 210XLTs and Avatar 112s,mixing for different gigs.I loved the Eden tone and the Avatar 112 added some low end and power handling.I used the 210XLT by itself at a few gigs and it did pretty well but it did fart out at one gig when I tried to make it sound like a 410.I thought at the time it would be cool to have a cab that size that could do any gig and even cooler if it were lighter.The RX 310 is the closest thing I've had to that goal.

The 310 is voiced deep so it works with my 5 strings B string very well,it doesn't need a 12 or 15 to fill in the bottom,and it gets loud without breaking up.The mids of my Eden cabs were what I liked best about them and the Dr Bass cabs mids aren't as warm but they cut very well,the mids are the most important part of the tone for me.If the mids aren't happening I'm not happening and the RX 310 definitly has good mids.I'd describe the tone of the RX 310 as deep,clear,punchy and tight.

I think the 310 is a great gigging cabinet.We played a city wide outdoor gig last fourth of July and I used just my 310.Most of the time I'll bring my RX 115 to use with the 310 for bigger gigs but this time I thought I'd see what the 310 could really do.It was just killer,I was suprised.I even had to roll back the bass EQ on my preamp some,not from it farting out but because the 310 had so much clean low end it didn't need a boost like most of my previous cabinets.The best part is the fact that it is so portable and light.My Eden 210XLT was 62 lbs and needed help on the big gigs and my RX310 weighs 52 lbs and can handle them all by itself.

I don't remember seeing anyone here say they ask him about that, but I know from seeing many other posts here plus my own experience that he's very willing to talk customization with potential customers. The only thing Rx about my Rx112's is the cabinets themselves - everything else was a customized mod.

Cool - I'm not in the market today, but who knows what tomorrow will bring. ;)

I like the fact that you offer Beyma drivers...I use K145s and that's about as close as you can get these days.

On Dr. Bass

I have specific needs as bass player that where many hats in many different types of music. Some of you that know me, know that I have going through the search for the one "cab" solution (one that won't break my back as well).

Something that can cut through for a grindy rock situation and yet yield a voice for sophisticated 6 string fretless player in a fusion situation.

Marc is on hell of a nice guy and is working on a specific proto trpe right now based off my specs for what I'm looking for.

He design philosophy on design makes sense, speaker voicing, modular cabinet designing, ect.

He also built significantly large touring PA systems

I'm expecting the new cab to really blew people away and cabinet that some of the big manufactures will not be able touch at that price point.

To the OPer: If those Dr. Bass cabs are still on EBay, snag the 2x12 three way. Seems like a darn good deal.

I have the DRBASS BL-212 neo, 4 ohm, 600 watt cab and I'm as happy as a puppy with two peters, :D. Marc makes great cabs and at the time, this was a custom order. I think this cab is now considered a stock item. The 212's IMHO, are great, plenty of lows, mids, and highs to go around. The cab weighs about 54lbs, and is built like a brick sh*thouse.:eek: My next cab, when the time comes, will definately be a DRBASS product. :bassist::D :D

I have a Dr. Bass Rx212 and I absolutely love it!!! It is by far the best sounding cab I've owned, not to mention it's lighter/smaller than most of them. My only complaint was that it took 7+ weeks to get it. However, they've now consolidated cabs to get them out quicker... and to tell you the truth, they're worth waiting for. I actually called Marc from Dr. Bass this morning because I'm going to order another cab from him. Honestly... going forward I will probably own nothing but Dr. Bass cabs. I'm anxious to see if the consolidation leads to faster turnaround.

BTW... I ordered my 212 with the BL series horn, so I guarantee he does custom jobs. He also sold me an Rx-series raw driver that I used to replace the blown speaker in one of my combos. In retrospect, I seriously think about the 2460 compared to the 212 because I would like to have more mid voicing. Honestly though... I think you'll be happy with ANY of Dr. Bass's cabs!

Dr. Bass is definitely the way to go, unless you want something huge, like an 8x10. I have plans to get a BL 2460 with 3U airhead and tilt back casters and luggage handle. It would be even more killer with a 112LF!

Marc is a really cool guy to deal with, and if you didn't want the horn, he'd definitely leave the price out of your cost.

I own the BL212 and the BL310 Dr. Bass cabs. I love them. They make my p-bass and Mesa 400 kill. The only thing that was tough was waiting for them. Just be prepared for six weeks going in and you won't be disappointed.

One side note to let everyone know how awesome Marc is at Dr. Bass, I originally ordered the RX series. Those got to me damaged and we had a huge fiasco with DHL trying to get them picked up and shipped back to South Carolina. When he re-sent new cabs to me, he upgraded me to the BL series free of charge. Huge upgrade and he now has my bass cab business for life.

Also, Marc took a lot of time with me choosing cabs bassed on my amp, bass, style etc. He is the man and loves to talk bass.

OOHH MAN, I never thought lightning struck in the same place twice, but it has in this thread and Marc got a double jolt as well. :eek: This exact, to the tee, hit the nail on the head scenario happened to me. :crying: And Marc gave me the exact same upgrades when he replaced my cab. I can say only good things about Marc Serio, his business, and his HONESTY and FAIRNESS in how he treats his customers. I had to wait a long time for my first cab also, but it was well worth it. He'll be my first and only choice when it's time to buy another cab. :bassist::hyper::D
