Back in January, I received a BL2x10 and a BL1x15 from DR. BASS. I was very Impressed with the quaility in workmanship that went into this cabinets. I found the finish a welcome change from the "rat fur" carpet. Hooking them up to my SVT 4pro, I was very impressed with the sound and tonal ballance that this combination produced. I thought there was no way that these light weight cabs would work as well as they do!!
I had an SWR Goliath Jr 2x10 and a Son of Bertha 1x15 that I bought from Guitar Center a few days before the DR. BASS Cabs arrived. So, just for fun, I "A" and "B"'ed the two stacks. I used my Ken Smith MD7. I had the amp set up in bi-amp mode. I set all the tones, EQ, and the bass flat, and found out just how much the SWR cabs were "coloring" the sound of the bass. What I heard from the DR. BASS cabs was the sound of my bass. Even trying different cross over points between the two, the DR. BASS cabs still sounded better than the SWR gear. I'm glad Guitar Center has a 30 day return policy!!!
I get all kinds of compliments on how great my rig sounds. People want to know more about the cabinets; where to get them; how much; how long did I wait for them.
That's just half the story!!
During the week of May 10th, I was in Myrtle Beach for a little vacation and decided to give Marc a call to check out the "operating room"!!!(where else would Dr. Bass make his cabinets??!!??) Marc invited me out to where his band was playing and hang out. Marc's a hellava nice, and a good bass player, too!! We agreed to meet for lunch the next day.
After a nice lunch, we got down to business. I told him that I would like to have another BL2x10 and BL1x15. A little side note here. May 10th thru the 16th is Bike Week in Myrtle Beach. Marc's band was booked a lot through that week. He managed to find the time to build those two cabinets for me in time to take home on Sunday.
