The TL;DR version: Are DR Hi-Beams just inordinately long length for their scale?
The full version: Bought a used Epi EB-0, a 30" scale bass. It came with rounds which are slowly but surely chewing my fingers apart. Thought about buying a set of flats, when I ran across a 32" SX on Craigslist with flats for not much more than a set of new strings.
So, being fully aware that more stuff is always better than less (1st world problems!), I bought it. I figured I'd just stick the strings on the 30" and try it out with an almost free bass in the mix.
Now, the thing is, even on a 32" bass, the E string is already wrapped past the silk and into the string on the peg of the SX; obviously if I move this to the 30" that's going to be even more winding. I figured my plan had failed, but when I look at DR's website, they only list long and short scale, no medium.
Hence, the question: Are DR's just long and should I not worry about wrapping string around the tuner, or did the previous owner wrap long scale strings on his 32"? It's not outside of the possiblity, he included a set of piccolo strings with the packaging that are long scale/34".
Thanks in advance for the guidance.
