Dr James Watson resigned

[edit - too much blah, blah, blah]

Indeed there is a difference between the two events - but the point is how people choose to react to things that bother them. If more people reacted more proportionately to negative stimuli, the world would have far fewer battles spurned by asininity. Words will always be only words. Actions will always be what count. If people react properly to words WITH words, than the negative results of actions taken for the sake of words decreases.

No one disagrees, but this thread was created to discuss the topic at hand. Make a new thread and discuss your theory, which is valid, but doesn't apply here, IMHO.

It's quite simple really. You peeps think this is no big deal, that a prominent scientist can just speak like this and people shouldn't make a big deal out of it, we disagree and think this is worth getting upset over and discussing. Respect that and let us discuss this in peace, it's not that much to ask. If you guys indeed think this thread is ridiculous why do you keep posting in it???

Yes, and Dr. Watson's words are supposedly backed up by action: his research.

If people react properly to words WITH words, than the negative results of actions taken for the sake of words decreases.

If reacting properly to this, for you, is completely ignoring it, more power to you. Some of us want to discuss the topic at hand because we feel that a scientist has no place backing up wild Hitlerian theories like this one. Sorry, but I think this is too important to roll my eyes and proceed to ignore. We are doing just that: reacting to words with words, discussing how incredibly stupid this kind of statement is, and trying to figure out why he said that, and where he's coming from. Some people feel disgusted by his words (including me) while others think that, being the scientist he is, he might have a point. These people are the reason why it is important to discuss this topic.

Crack a joke on this post if you wish, then let us finish this discussion. :)

I could if I wanted to, but it would be pointless because it's an opinion matter.

The fact remains that you didn't "have" to;)

In an ideal world IQ tests would be an accurate measure of a person's intelligence, and therefore we could use them to say that I am smarter than person B and that test group X is dumber than control group Y. Asking employers what they think of their employees isn't a great measure of intelligence. It might be useful as one measure of work ethic: are employees of ethnicity A lazier than those of ethnicity B? If the employers say yes then this will show us that either ethnicity A IS lazy (and we would have to perform tests to determine this) OR it might show that employers do not like ethnicity A. Ultimately however I don't think this is a useful assessment other than to determine the perception of an employer, so I see no need for further testing unless you're interested in that.

Unless you can find examples from all sides that have identical environments, it would be an extremely slanted exercise.

Anyway guys, no need to get upset over this. I'm just playing sort of a devil's advocate, stats based kinda thing. If someone can find a series of accurate studies that contradict Watson then we can lay the null hypothesis to rest. Until then... further testing...

I'm so far from upset it's not funny. I like when people like this scientist say what's on their mind... it's a nice counterpoint to the people who live under the delusion that people don't still think like this.

I HAVE BLACK FRIENDS!!!!1!!!11!!!1

I've admitted my own prejudices on this forum before, but this idea that blacks are mentally inferior to whites is amazing to me.

Dude, you're one of my favorite TBer's, but...

I'm referring to his hypothesis statistically... I'm not saying I think its true. There's no evidence to prove that his hypothesis is true, and no evidence to prove his hypothesis false, so scientifically it can not be rejected or accepted.

Dr. Watson resigned?

Hmmm. I guess he couldn't take the heat.

Or he was SCARED!

The bankruptcy of his delusional ideas should have been exposed.

Ignorance is not genetically based either and a$$holes come in all colors.

But I guess it's easy to compare him to people who say the world is flat, we're not going to waste much time debating them either.

Also their are nine types of human intellegnce not just one:

Musical Intelligence (important to bass players)
Naturalist Intelligence
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence
Existential Intelligence
Interpersonal Intelligence
Spatial Intelligence
Intra-personal Intelligence
Linguistic Intelligence

Technically you are right. But in practice this is uninteresting, both in the academic and "normal" world. So why bring it up? When the only "evidence" the designer of the hypothesis come up with is "people who deal with black employers know they are less intelligent", you may easily reject is as bogus science.
