DR New drop tune strings!

If you tuned BEAD you'd want the 125/105/85/65 set of DDTs. If you tune EADG you'd want the 105/85/65/45 set unless you like a heavier string and plan to tune down sometimes, then the 115 set might make sense.

I've got these in standard tuning on 3 basses now. LOVE THEM. I've only found one 5 string where I like hi-beams better so far (a Zon), on my Fender RBV, Sadowksy RS5, and Lakland 55-94 ... the DDTs are amazing.

I just got my SR5000E, yesterday. I'd hate to take off the expensive Elixers but if I'm going to have her cleaned and adjusted I might as well re-string, right? Before this, I've had my Fender AD Zone for 10+ years.

My band tunes 1.5 down, standard (C#•F#•B•E). From what i read, I take it you'd all suggest a set larger than 115's, huh?

I, honestly, havent paid much attention to it in the past... Perhaps I should. heh.

Being that the bass is new, and comes stock tuned to E, man playing this tuning is odd.

I've never been much of a gaudy/bling type of dude but.. i can see this bass looking awesome with gold strings. Dark wood, gold monorail & tuners, black knobs...

The .115 set may work well for you.

Balanced at C# would look something like;
.112 .080 .058 .043
.118 .088 .064 .046

That isn't a set balanced for drop B.

Consider;
.130 .088 .064 .046
.136 .092 .068 .049
... or if you like higher tension
.142 .096 .072 .052

Thanks Thunder Pulse.

Ryan - look for sets from any manufacturer that are within .001 or .002 of the sizes I suggest. The gauges I specified are for the Circle K stuff, but if you can find sets that are close you will be better served.

FWIW .105 is a good E string. The .125 would be a very light B string by comparison IMO.

DR was set up at the Dallas Guitar Show last weekend, and I picked up a set of the 55's put them on my Thunderbird, and tuned it BEAD. The strings were laying on the neck, but a quick truss adjust and it was all good. I took it to rehearsal last night and was VERY happy with the way it sounded. Held tune, nice low action with no buzz, and great clarity out of the B string. The thing I was most impressed with was the tension. Obviously, it was a lot less with the truss adjustment needed, but they never felt floppy or loose in the least. In fact, I could hardly tell a difference from standard tuning as far as tension goes. These strings are a win for DR.

BTW these strings make my Sadowsky 5 sound so good I'm considering selling a couple of my other basses! For so long I've been trying to find that perfect set of strings that would my my Sadowsky 5 feel as good as my Sadowsky 4. Done. So no need to experiment with so many 5'ers.

These are just perfect. Tight, fat, growly, with a great voice. Only getting better as the break in.
