Yeah, the yellow paper envelopes have been around a while. If memory serves, those inner envelopes are "treated" in a way that gives the strings anti-corrosive packaging and thus, their color. Frankly, I think having any instrument strings in paper envelopes is a bit obsolete. D'Addario and Ernie Ball went with a single plastic anti-corrosion protective inner packet; less waste.
