Hi all, just wanted to share my experience, in case others are considering doing the same. I have a Lakland 44-64 P/J fretless and since I had it for about 8 months, I've been using EB Cobalt flatwounds. I wanted to try something different, and after getting addicted to Tony Franklin's YouTube channel, decided to give DR Sunbeams a try. Wow, what a good tone. The roundwounds obviously feel different, but I find them easier to play and slide around with than the Cobalts. I found with the Cobalts, my fingers would stick (maybe because of more surface area and friction). The rounds do have a bit more string noise but sound great on a fretless. And with the P/J pickups and using my fingers or a pick, I can get a number of tones. As for eating up the fretboard, that is a lot of worrying for nothing. I was always concerned about the marks caused by roundwounds, but that's all they are. They don't dig into and leave valleys in your fretboard, especially not an ebony one. So, if you've been curious to give roundwonds a try on a fretless, I recommend the DR Sunbeams. If anyone else has a similar experience, please share your thoughts. Thanks.
