Dragonfly "Amp" (stethoscope)

Anybody have any experience with this little stethoscope "amp" ? I'm wondering how well it works for bass and what kind of tone you get - warm? acoustic?

I use mine for practicing sight-reading. They are fantastic. Very, very transparent - by this I mean that if you have ANY string noise, it will come through. They teach you to be much more careful in your technique, and because you can hear *everything* (and quite loudly, I might add - it is pure acoustic conduction, no volume control) you tend to play a little more softly than you might otherwise practicing unplugged, or even though an amp. As a result, technique improves. I highly recommend them - just got one for the guitarist of my trio, too.

Hey Dave - thanks for the feedback. I'm new to bass (longtime, but lapsed, guitar player) and really like the acoustic sound of my p-bass unplugged. But I can only hear it well late at night when all is quiet. Seems like the dragonfly would be great way to setup anytime with a minimum of fuss, and get that nice acoustic sound to boot.

Just a heads up.........I guess you don't get the amp "automatically", you need to forward a copy of the receipt from your gold supporting member donation to the talkbass store.

Years ago, I borrowed a friends stethoscope, and just taped it to my bass. The sound was good enough [I'm sure the DragonFly is better, since it has two sensors and sticks on w/out tape], but I didn't like how the ear thingies felt - very uncomfortable for any length of time over a couple minutes.

It looks like the DragonFly might have a little bit more plastic that fits in the ear than a normal stethoscope, therefore increasing comfort. Am I correct?

If I'm wrong, I need to find a way to get a better [more padded] fit.

I should say that my friend and others thought I was crazy for saying a stethoscope is uncomfortable. Perhaps I'm like the princess and the pea.

I got one of these a little bit before they came out, at a guitar show around here. I love my Dragonfly for practicing around the house or taking it with you to travel.
