Absolutely. At some point Xmax reaches diminishing return depending on application. For a sub higher Xmax is generally good.
But, a balance of sensitivity, power handling and a well tuned cabinet (with attention paid to application) are what should be considered most important. As Agedhorse said there are a lot of variables that interact. If you are using a lower powered head you would look for a cabinet/driver combination that gives you high sensitivity and enough low end. It also depends on your playing style: if you dig in a low Xmax driver may come out on you, if you have great armature and a dynamic touch than it might be just what you want. There is a balance for every player. Personal preference.
