Drop tunings = harder to learn theory and such?

I know it may not apply to the metal you may be playing (or even the key of cm), but I would find myself missing harmonics on the strings should I tune away from standard pitch.

Side note, play with harmonics in f#m tuned EADF#. You can hit i7, VI, VII(4-3), iv7, bII+9, and all kinds of cool stuff

I don't even play in drop tunings anymore (played with a fiver tuned AEADG in a band I was in before), but yes, things will be different. But why not focus on the possibilities rather than the limitations? That's all I'm saying.

And like others have said already, it's not like drop tunings are some sort of new-fangled idea concieved by hack nu-metal bands to make "chugging" easier, it's been done in all sorts of genres and for a long time.
Just don't see why some people are so against it on principle. Weird. We're musicians, I thought we were supposed to be open minded and creative. Maybe not..

Perhaps not. Ever read youtube comments? Sheesh, metalheads have to be the most close minded of them all, but I digress.

I'm finding that standard tuning is making a world of difference. I'm finding I'm not neding to jump all over the fretboard to hit the notes I need to hit.. which makes my timing much more accurate. And that I don't have to stare at the frets either.

Perhaps in the not so distant future, I'll "re" learn all these songs on my standard tuned 5 string, if I feel that fretting the B a lot isn't too much of a hassle. Plus it gives me a low B I can throw in from time to time to mix things up :)
