Worrying too much about dinging your bass means you will worry too much about playing your bass. Not that you want to go out of your way to ding it, but as Victor Wooten once told me, I play the bass. The bass doesn't play me.

Dropped my bass for the first time!

Yeah I didn’t love it when I wrote it, and I definitely don’t now, lol. Hopefully I got my point across though.
1979. At rehearsal with a ‘76 Thunderbird, just standing there talking about something, strap lets go at the upper pin, bass falls before I can catch it, snapped at the headstock. Fairly easy fix, but scarred for life.
