Drum machine on a netbook

Alt + tab flips between pattern editor and mixer, and alt+ f7 (or right click > move on window title) to move the window up so you have full access to the pan/velocity section. With the window resized to minimum only the window bar and menus are blocked by the top OS menus. ALT+F7 allows you to move the window down tho.

Pretty budget IME since the cheapest drum machine that gets close to hydrogen's complexity was like 800$ the last time I checked. 'Twas a boss DR something. 880 IIRC.

Netbook cost me 300$ incl. all taxes etc....

i hope the native linux is a lot better than the windows port...i love hydrogern but it's so clunky on windows.

that's most likely due to the fact that the win port has been abandonware for ages. only the linux one has any real support AFAIK.

I've been looking for some good, affordable drum machine software to put on my Windows desktop; but I'm willing to load Ubuntu on my netbook. How good is this Hydrogen? Is it free? I installed Ordrumbox but I can't figure it out to save my life. It's very non-user-friendly.

When it initially loads. on first run I had to resize the window to the minimum height it could be (alt f8, then some arrow key work to do so) and resized it to fill the screen width:

Now, everytime I run it I just hit alt f7 and press up 6 times to show the velocity/pan stuff. the only downside is that the menus are hidden....

This is the mixer window that automatically maximizes, and is accessable thru alt-tab or the first H2 logo on the top panel:

The other thing I did was download all the available drumkits (Instruments>import library). Had to do the alt f7 trick to access the download and install button, but still mighty nice and easy.

Thanks much Ninfan!! I appreciate all the screen shots. I will check Hydrogen out. I'm just looking for "a drummer" to jam with. Gotta load Ubuntu on the netbook first.
