Drummer & aspiring bassist pickup question

Playing drums for 50+ years, Bass for 2+ years...

I've discovered I can create a cool tapping/clacking/bongo/woodblock rhythm by tapping lightly on both pickup housings with a finger tip. Not hard, just about like tapping your fingers on a table. On an intro to a song before bass comes in. No drummer available.

I'm a drummer and can't help myself, and it sounds perfect for what I want.

Advisable or not? No big deal or big mistake?

Thanks for seasoned advice. I'll go back to Drumforum.org now...
