Chet Baker made some trio recordings in the eighties with Niels-Henning Oerstad Pedersen and Doug Raney. The best of the bunch is Daybreak IMHO. Although a little rough around the edges, there's some incredible swinging on this recording and NHOP doesn't disappoint as a one man rhythm section. If you've got ears, there's much to be learned here about propelling an ensemble without a drummer.

To answer wulfs question, the music is SATB + piano, and some chord charts for guitar insturments, which I use.

There's some great jazz listed above to listen to with your pianist and pick out ideas.

In the meanwhile, if you're currently playing off the chord charts, have a go at reading the bass part from the SATB score. You can use that to suggest the starting flow of notes and then use your rhythmic sensibilities to drive the song along.

Chet Baker Trio Recordings

Ooooo. I forgot about those. Very nice.

I have one called "Strollin' "with him and Phillp Catherine and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, recorded on Enja. They do a knock-out version of Cole Porter's "Love for Sale" that I believe is a Don Sebeski arrangement originally for big band that Baker trimmed down for the trio.
