drummers with unnescecarilly nice equipment.

Lol. My pedals alone are worth more then that. Why are you hating on someone who decided to buy one drumset and not worry about having to upgrade in the future? $1500 for a drum set isn't all that bad when you see tube heads for $2500 alone. Then add the cost of the cab and bass. Hell, look at upright basses or cellos or even trombones. Instruments do cost some coin.

When I read the tread title I thought about 3 bassdrums, 20 toms, 20 cymbals and 2 gongs or something... not just a standard drumkit :)

Whatever, 1500 is pretty much normal for a proper drumkit. You'll definately hear a huge and justified diffrence between a 300$ kit and this, and it will last much longer. It's not like he has a custom made 10000$ kit...

As long as he plays good, he deserves a proper kit. Unlike that one drummer I remember who had an awesome 60'ies Ludwig kit, but could neither play nor tune it. Sounded like crap when he was on it. That was unnecessary :)

That's really nothing, good drums are expensive. Hardware, throne, pedals, and cymbals, cost a fortune for good stuff too.
I would much rather play with a drummer who has a passion for and values good gear. Gear doesn't make the player, but good gear in the hands of good musicians is priceless.

I see nothing wrong with a good drummer having a good kit.

I've always said there's three reasons I never became a drummer:

1) Didn't want to buy the stuff

2) Didn't want to haul the stuff

3) No coordination

But to the point... agreed with others, $1,500 for a drum kit is actually getting off really easy. The drummer in my current band rolls with a basic Sonor 4-piece (kick, snare, top top and floor tom), and he said his kit was recently appraised at over 4 grand.
