I just finished a defret of an old Peavey Milestone II. The whole process went great, no serious chipping, successful re-radiusing, fingerboard's smooth. I oiled the fingerboard rather than using epoxy or something, because I'm planning on always using flats on this bass. Everything seemed great.
Then today (put strings on it yesterday), I opened the case, and the fingerboard was bone dry
. I'm wondering if I managed to put too much oil on the fb, and now it's repelling all moisture. Has this happened to anyone before? I try to do things in moderation, but this is the first time I've defretted a bass, so maybe I put on more than I thought. I was using plain old, furniture-grade lemon oil, applied with an old cotton undershirt.
Anyone know how to go about fixing this or what I did wrong?
Thanks guys!
