Module4 by far the superior compressor. Unit67 to be is a sweet, feature rich boost. Either would be single pedal between guitar and vintage amp tone magic.

I would hope so, ‘cos it’s got way more knobs, innit? I wondered whether the EQ in The Engine might be similar to the Unit 67, both having some form of Rangemaster circuit. There are a good few guitar demos of The Engine, as one might expect, but Ihaven’t seen one that spends more than a strum or two in the low-gain part of the Plexi side of the pedal, and I fear at higher gain the bass might be a bit overwhelmed. Few guitarists playing Plexi-style ODs seem to want much low end in their tone and keep the bass dialled back. The Rangemaster side sounds like it might be better suited to bass, but there are probably less expensive options in smaller enclosures for that.

I guess if anyone uses a Plexi-type OD for low to moderate drive and finds that it doesn’t obscure the low frequencies too much (blends and parallel loops aside), that would be useful information.
