I remember when people thought it was cool, and kind of flattering, when artists of any kind borrowed from other artists.

People have been suing over pop copyright infringement at least since the 1960s. So I don't remember such a time...

If someone thinks it is cool, I don't think they sue the person copying it. Which did happen in the 1960s, 70s, etc. Sometimes people got sued for ripping off themselves, although that was more record companies.

Again, I’m not addressing what seems like a legitimate complaint by a band who feels shorted. You can stop beating that drum any time.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with a white reggae band, or a Japanese salsa band, or anything resembling that. I don’t understand how that factors into the argument. Ripping someone off is a douche move. Becoming passionate about an art form from another culture is actually a great way to expose yourself to that culture and hopefully learn to understand and appreciate it. Without that exchange we don’t get things like fusion cuisine.

I want to have nice things like wonton tacos.

I don’t think anybody here or in referenced videos claimed there was anything wrong with a white reggae band- however people have tried to twist the meaning of Adam Neely’s video to suggest he was trying to say/imply that, which to me seems like deliberately missing his actual argument due to one comment taken out of context in a pretty long video

There is an irony where complaining about other people virtue signaling is in fact just virtue signaling.

Maybe we should move on from that topic and discuss the merits of the lawsuit or what should be copyrightable. Or not.

I think the term "virtue signaling" is often used (deliberately or not) as ad hominem to stifle conversation. Anyway I'm out before I get booted!
