Dual Cut five string fretless

I thought David didn't do custom work / mods? I'm about to wire an Audere 4-band pre-amp with a piezo and magnetic config. Still trying to figure that one out.

It may only be something he only offers to OEM Luthier customers, or maybe its experimental I didn't ask. I'm just extremely happy he was willing give it a shot.:D

From what I understand the preamp will be a classic 4 band with one high impedance input and one normal. David did state that this mod can't be done after the preamp is finished that it has to be done while being built. So I'm guessing the capacitor value for the one line will be either left out or changed.:hmm:

If your using an already completed preamp you may still have to add a buffer to the Piezo to get the proper signal. A nice buffer is the Fishman powerchip, it’s set up to blend, is 9 volt and stacked on a pot which makes for a nice compact unit.

You could always try to build a buffer. I've dabbled in building my own preamps for a while but have not been able to build anything near as compact or pleasing as what is offered from Audere and some of the others. However building a small Piezo buffer would be fairly simple.

Good luck!:bassist:

I've decided on a stacked humbucker in the neck position and a piezo bridge. I bought one of those eBay piezo bridges everyone keeps asking about. Its very solid built, has a nice adjustment range, and is solid brass, well worth the money so far. We'll have to wait to see how it sounds!;)

rollno: Well the eBay bridge is out of the question. I asked for 17mm spacing but ended up getting 18.5mm. I didn't notice it until I mounted it. It fits, but does not leave enough outer edge on the B and G strings. Guess I'll put it on the shelf for later use. I did however wire it into my Guitar Port to see how it sounded, it was actually pretty decent. I’m looking forward to using it with the Audere on a future build.

This turns out to be a good thing, because now I've decided to go with a single coil in neck, stacked bucker in bridge and build my own bridge out of cocobolo. Like I said in the first post, going with the flow :D

I perceive an entirely new line of marketing coming... it started with Mid-Hump®, progressed to Tranny Block™, and now we shall have the Tone Knot®™(pat. pending)*... if you don't have one, you don't have TONE!

*(not to be confused with the Tone NOT, which sucks all the tone out of a bass).

:hiding:

and then wilser says beeooteeful! what is it about this thread that has all our greatly respected luthiers gibering? great build scottyd!:bassist::bassist::bassist:

I finally got a little bit of time to get the ball rolling on this one again!:hyper: I spent the day getting a bridge and pup covers built. I also built the bobbins. It'll have 2 single coils, I'm still trying to decide if i want to run them to a Bart TCT that I've had put up for a while.:hmm:

The bridge is cocobolo and spalted maple, the pup covers are spalted maple and poplar. Here is a shot of them roughed out.:D

The bass has the pup cavitys routed and it's finish sanded and coated with sealor. The spalt is like a sponge, it took several coats to get the top sealed. Now on to the grain filling.
