also, there's true triple drivers (lo/mid/hi) and there's a thing where they're still 2-way, just with dual lows and one hi driver.

so true.. make sure your triple driver buds actually have a 3-way xover .. ever the 12-driver buds are still mostly 3-way, assigning 4 BA's to each split!

The key to good bass or sound with IEM or earbuds is getting a good seal in your ear.
I luck out in that foam tips seal in my ears fine.
The custom fit ear pieces are probable fantastic for those that need them.
Maybe that is where to spend first especially if the same eartips fit many brands of IEM
Or at least the ear molds can be reused

This bears repeating. I also do fine with the foam tips on my UM30 Pro's. I've been using foam earplugs for hearing protection for years though, in the USAF and riding motorcycles (wind noise will destroy your hearing). I have to use different sized tips in each ear with my Westones - something I don't think a lot of people consider - humans are not perfectly symmetrical

My singer has 1964 A12's (we're endorsing artists) and totally LOVES them !!
Mind you.. he did go thru SE215's and Senn 4i's before them..

The Westone pro 30s are three way crossovers. I think I've made my decision

for sake of bass response.... consider looking into dynamic drivers. They actually move air just like a speaker. Aurasonic Kickers appear to be of the better on the market for well under $300. I personally use sony 7550's, single 16 mm dynalic driver. I can practically feel the punch of the bass and kick drum. go to www.ineargear.com. click on the questions tab. there is detailed explanations of everything youll ever need to know about iem.

Pretty sure you will like them just fine. I use 1964 Quads with 4 bass drivers and I turn down the lows a little bit on my mix.

When I used the UM PRO 30s, and once I had a good seal (I prefer the yellow foamies as opposed to the sized dark grey ones), I was quite pleasantly surprised and how good the PRO 30s sound. So I speak with a bit of experience, even though that's certainly not the Gospel.

And the Pro 30s will carry you a long way until if and when you are ready to spring for a custom-mold set of IEMs/

This may be a silly question but can you get custom mold for a old pair or IEMs? Like, could I get custom molds for the 30s at some point? Or would they have to be a new pair entirely?

Yes you can.. most vendors who build customs - including Westone - will re-shell universals into custom fit. What I don't know is how many restrict that to their own models.. meaning.. Westone might not take UE universals and fit them into their custom molds.
You'd have to check with your vendor of choice...

Have both the UM20s and SE215s....would like to try the 535s or UM30s. I don't think you'd need to boost any bass on the 20s. I use the 20s playing bass, very warm low mid range EQ curve to my ears. I prefer the 215s when singing as it seemed a little more balanced to me. But I'm lucky enough to use a stereo IEM transmitter....makes a world of difference ....I'm not sure what you're using. Wireless or wired??
