I'm seeing a bit of LeCompte in the Venus.

Sure, it has some of that, but since those are uncommon, I'd bet they draw on similar inspirations. I see a Fireman (upside down Iceman) with echoes of some Thunderbird/Explorer lines that Ibanez also borrowed.

It's a Squarespace website, you'd think they would offer SSL. They have to know many browsers will block the site and give a security warning.

I looked up the business address and it's a residence. Nice looking house.

They've been around at least 3-4 years. Gary Shea from the bands New England and Alcatrazz is an endorser. The bunch of live clips I've seen of him using his Dudaci sounded pretty good.

Yeesh! Any company waxing poetic about “tonewoods” on anything other than an acoustic or acoustic-electric bass or guitar is a major turnoff for me.

Just because the guy doesn't seem to be the best at marketing or making a web site doesn't mean he can't build a good instrument. A lot of people are real quick to make snide remarks without ever seeing one of these basses in person.

Interesting that there aren't threads making fun of companies who charge thousands of dollars for basses that offer absolutely nothing new in terms of design or aesthetics beyond the J and P bass designs that have been around for decades (and there's no shortage of those companies).

Funny is funny, whether it's Fender having 23 different burst finishes or MusicMan selling that kit bass, the new Jackson Hodgepodge Special, Jason Momoa playing a Kala U, etc.

They look like quality basses and the video I posted sounds good...although I would have soloed the neck pickup with the tone cut.

Where are his basses made?

WHO makes them?

What kind of pedigrees do any of the builders have?

You see, Roger Sadowsky paid some dues. So did Spector, Fodera, Dingwall, et al. They didn't shoot right out of the gate asking thousands of dollars for instruments are by unknown quantities. Is Baxter building all of these basses a few miles from Fenway (which would be a plus in my book)? Who knows?

His copy reads like his wife wrote it at the kitchen table. A few local guys liked his basses so he figured, what the heck, let's offer them up to the general public.

His basses may be stellar. But if he wants that kind of dough right out of the gate from strangers hundreds/thousands of miles away, he had better EXPLAIN TO US WHY.

Short version: His basses be Excaliber with strings. His website is laughable. And he gives zero good reasons why anyone should just randomly take a shot on his product.....other than, of course, "Some of my friends dig my work" (in essence).
