Dumb "old guy" question

My Bass is two pickup (Schecter Diamond P 5 Custom) with two volume and one tone (push/pull bridge pickup double or single coil)

I don't like two volume pots. would it be OK to wire the two pickups together on one pot (volume, I run both pickups on full so unless there is an impedance prob......) so I can roll off the volume (say at the end of a ballade) all at once??

My standard setting is both pickups on full, tone wide open, p/p switch in (two coil) I don't think I need a balance control.... but maybe that would be better... I don't know.

What says you??

I've heard a few killer-sounding guitars with nothing but a volume control (I know that's not what you're proposing), though I don't recall having seen a bass set up that way. If you know your bass and are sure you're not going to use the other settings, why not.

Mike Watt rewires all of his basses like that. A volume/blend combination makes more sense than a volume/volume combination in my mind.

If you want to keep the aesthetics of your bass, fit a Blend/Vol/Tone setup.

That would work a treat.

Or put both pickups on a stacked volume pot... then you can grab both at the same time.

I dislike double volume pots, too. I rewired my P/J with a three-way toggle replacing one of the volume pots. That way you can get a single pickup on its own should you ever want that tone. I never use the single J pickup, but I like using the P pickup on its own, as well both pickups at the same volume, depending on the scenario.

The Bass sounds so good to me with both pickups on full and the bridge in double coil mode that I don't really fore see any other setting being used. I prefer blend pots with an active pre, but this Bass is so sweet passive I don't want to go that route.

I have thought of the 3 way switch but it would always be in the 2 pickup position.

I have tried the P pickup by it's self (I thought it might sound good in a ballade/slow blues) but...... not as good as both pickups together.

I'm not at all against having a dummy pot to keep the looks the same.
