Double Bass dumb question: attaching quiver?

I had my quiver tied through the string holes in the tailpiece, and around the wire behind the tailpiece. I thought this was good for years. Last week, the quiver started buzzing along to certain notes. I took it off, and not only did the buzz go away, but the responsiveness off the whole instrument seemed to improve.

I play in a band where I have to switch between arco and pizz a lot, so I re-attached it. I found that tying it to the end pin, rather than the tailpiece wire, produces less alteration of tone, by a hair.

Or maybe I'm imagining all this...
