Dunlop Strings...

it seems like no one really talks about them and they may be relatively new, but I sent my bass to the music store and got my bass re strung with Dunlops which i was willing to give a shot at (they didn't have Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys which I normally use).

I'll probably be getting it back tomorrow, but I like to see if anyone has ever used them before, Thx in advance.

Wow, I cannot believe it, got my bass back today, and the tone is SO BRIGHT.. possibly even brighter than Ernie Balls. I can nail many of the tones that many pop punk bands have. They are still new and still have that new string sound.. but it seems very AWESOME at the moment.. highly recommended!

They introduced them at last year's Summer NAMM show in Austin. They weren't in regular production yet, but their rep gave me a set of the nickel rounds to try. They sounded good, nice balanced sound, I'd buy 'em if a store were out of my regular strings.

I've never really been around the block with strings. I've got Elixirs on my bass right now. I like them a lot, but I'm willing to try something new. Would you say I should get them and try them out?

I´ve tried the Dunlop Steel Strings now. I bought a 4-String Set Steel Rounds 045-105

They´ve got a nice Feel and Tone, but now, 1 Month later they´ve lost every Zing and only sound boomy and I´m a Player with absolute no aggressive Handsweat....:hmm:

At Least:

I´ve bought them once and had given them a Try, but I will not buy them twice...

I stay with "my" GHS Supersteels !!!

I went to the local East Brunswick, NJ, Guitar Center for a new set of strings for a Fender P-bass. Ideally, I wanted to check out a set of DR Sunbeams. I tried their nickel Lo-Riders on the P and didn't like them. They were too growly and there was none of the P-thump. (BTW, I love the nickel Lo-Riders on my Spector) GC didn't have the Sunbeams and most of the strings were stainless steel, which I don't like. Then I spotted a set of Dunlop Nickel Plated Steel strings (.45 - .65 - .85 - .105) at only $20. So, they were worth at least a try. Well, I'm impressed with these strings. Nice feel, sound and string to string tone. The P-thump is back with an edge. They are a bit bright at first, but 2 days of playing is getting them settled in and I'm liking the tone more. At $20, these strings are a bargain.

little known fact for y'all the dunlop strings are manufactured on ex DR machines and head of production used to work for DR.

I'm not sure where you get your information from, but Dunlop brand strings are made on machines that Dunlop has acquired from whichever source they get their machinery from. We don't have any 'ex' DR machines that I know of.

...i'm a nickel-plated steel kinda guy, so i don't have an opinion on stainless steel strings...

but i've had the Dunlops on my jazz for a good month now, and i'm loving them. they sound and feel great to me. my favorite strings ever are DR Sunbeams, and i can comfortably say that these are almost tied with them for first place. Fender strings come in in second place. :)

DR Sunbeams: 10/10
Dunlop Ni-plated: 9.9/10
Fender Ni-plated: 9/10

everything else: :spit: :D
