Decided to have a little photoshoot with the Studio Overdrive. The inside is always a work of art!
John K Volt Thrower at a decent price. This is just as good as the OG. Not affiliated, but have one of my own…
Funny to see the update. I just popped the original shoebox Wizard on my board again and it makes me wonder why I ever take it off.

I think that's @MisticoRitualista 's vid judging by the rug, too.
But in a different way than the Volt Thrower? It sounds pretty bad@ss on the video.
Very different, I could never get a Volt Thrower to sound the same, the Locust Star from Broughton is closer in my opinion.
The Op Amp Distortion looks simple with the single gain knob & boost switch but it also has three internal trimpots for distortion, treble, & bass.
Anybody have any pointers on getting the ODB to do a low gain, "tube" style overdrive similar to the Pork Loin? I've been trying to get it to do double duty (on the same settings!) as both a low gain drive and slightly dirty boost to my other dirt pedals. I feel like it's got to be in there, I just can't figure it out. The Pork Loin does this wonderfully, but whenever I try it with the ODB it clips the other pedals too much. I'm wanting just a bit of top end presence and slight bit of hair, which I'm getting on the ODB itself, but as soon as I use it to boost something else (MBD2, Rat, or Muff), it all gets nasty (in a bad way) with over-compressed lows and too much gain. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't it have a charge pump in it already? So my 9v is converted to 18v in the pedal? Technically I have the Grizzled Grime clone of the ODB, and I'm trying to verify that it CAN do 18v before I fry it. I bought it forever ago, and the builder isn't 100% sure it can take 18v power.
Oh. I have no idea what your clone can take. The Dunwich/Magic ODB can take up to 18v and doubles the voltage.

Right. I've been in contact with the builder, and he thinks there's one 35v cap in there, so he recommends against using an 18v power supply. But he's certain 12v will work fine. I just tested that, and it's still the same results in regards to boost functionality - no difference whatsoever. So I doubt the 18v power supply will make a difference. He also mentioned the VT clone has the same thing, so I did that at 12v too. That one sounded amazing! Is there any way to check if my VT can do 18v? Gut shots or something? If I can't do that, I'll probably just have to tweak the internals some more - I feel like I got similar tones from that as from the 12v power supply.
