By popular demand (well, a few people asked) here's a description of my method of dyeing a quilted maple top. This process is actually very simple, effective and the result is pretty spectacular.
The dye I used is W.D. Lockwood Water Soluble Concentrated “Peacock Blue.”
I ordered it from this company: Tools For Working Wood

The dye comes in one-ounce packages. You can cover a lot of territory with one ounce. I divided the powder into 1/4-ounce lots by spreading the powder on a sheet of glass and dividing it visually with a credit card. I highly recommend wearing a dust mask if you divide it like I did. The powder is extremely fluffy and very easily blown around and inhaled. Guess how I learned that lesson. The initial solution I used was 1/4-ounce dye in 8-ounces of water. As you'll see in the last photo I re-did the dyeing with an 1/8-ounce dye in 8-ounces of water solution.
Let's move onto the visuals, shall we?
