E-A-D-G-C ?

anyone else do this tuning on their 5 string?
I find the high C much more helpful than the floppy low B.

I'm planning on tuning this way when my strings die. Anyone know any brands that supply eadgc strings? I can't find any, and I'd rather not mix and match different ones

I'm throwing around the idea of getting a Nordstrand SC5 tuned E-C.

I don't use EADGC but I did normally tune C F Bb Eb when before I moved to 5, now I keep my 5 tuned to C F Bb Eb Ab, so I added a high string rather than a low one.

I plan on getting a 5 and tuning it to this; just going to buy strings for a 6 and keeping the low B for spares for my real 6.

This is why I play 6s mostly. I really like the option of going higher in one position (and honestly for what I do, I don't use the B much). Link Removed sells singles for most brands. Just get a 4 set you like and add a .030 or .035 for the C. You MIGHT get away with just moving everything over and changing the intonation, but you MIGHT need a new nut if the slots are so wide that your new strings rattle.

my last 5 string was tuned with a high c...my next will be setup the same. idealy i would liek to have 2 fives...one standard and one with the high c.

I have a Jerzy Drozd Signature which i keep b-g and a Nordstrand AG model that i keep e-c.I really like the higher register and i suppose the next step is a six!!

This is my standard 5 string tuning. You should try ADGCF if you want to go even higher, for more soloistic pursuits.

My 30inch Stambaugh is tuned E-C and I just love it. Was meant as a piccolo but I asked Chris for an extra nut with wider slots and found E-C to be so much fun
It even has a whammy

my Spector is tuned with high C
it atleast for me allows better chord placings
and more breathing room for high notes

I've never tried it on a 5. I just don't know that I would use it as much as the low B, especially after getting rid of several 6 string basses because I didn't have much of a use for the C string.

Although, thinking more about this, it would make a hell of a slap 5 string setup--I always liked popping the high C string, but I rarely, if ever, slap the Low B. Hmmmm.
