EA Euphonic Audio Club (NEW WEBSITE)

Bassdoubler, are you running the Monique into the front end of your iAmp, or into the effects return?

At first I was running it through the front end but the gain would have to be so high if I wanted the Monique to really come through so now I just crank the effects level and go into the return. The tone is just unreal. The Monique is super clean with JUST the right amount of tube fatness and if you push it it'll get a little dirty. The IAmp just acts as a super lightweight, powerful, and dead on clean power amp at this point. It almost doesn't let Monique get dirty!

Jules Monique.
Get your fundage.
Order the Monique.
The rest I can't adequately describe.
:)

I'm still deciding whether it's worth the $, but the Monique does sound awesome. I kind of wish the EQ had a bit more impact than it does but it's pretty much impossible to get a bad sound with it. I just wish it could get REALLY fat. Even with the bass knob turned all the way up it still retains that super clear tone when I want my teeth rattling out. I spent about 4 hours with an engineer buddy of mine at an amazing studio in NYC and we literally could not get it there. Fortunately my basses have onboard pres with great sounding bass knobs to make up for it. The mid knob though has a really great presence to it and at about 2 o'clock will cut through just about anything without losing warmth. It also breaks up BEAUTIFULLY when pushing the sensitivity knob going direct!

I use Roscoes that set flat have huge bass before any preamp. I use preamps to reduce bass. You did state that the iAMP might be taming it. Why not take to a shop where you can use it direct into a power amp with cabs and see if it doesn't get fat. My Glock rattles my teeth through Berg 12s and it's not even tube.:)
Yet in the studio you didn't get it to so our mileage may differ. When I read your post, if your basses add the fat isn't that good that the Monique won't add what's not coming in. That may not be a bad thing.

I have 3 Alleva-Coppolos and a couple of vintage Fenders....none of them ever lack in bass even when set flat which is how I usually try and keep them. I should have mentioned that I got the same results EQ-wise in the studio as with the IAmp Pro as a power amp. The bass knob, even maxed out, just doesn't give me that huge fat low end like every other amp or pre I've used. I usually keep the bass knob on the Monique at 4 o'clock which is the farthest I've ever turned any bass knob and with some added bass from the pre on my ACs it gets right where I want it. Just wish the EQ was a bit more powerful I guess. Maybe the Monique is just SO awesome and that's really the sound that's coming through, but I just like the ability to make my sound insanely fat even if I don't. I've also never felt "teeth rattling" lows out of any Berg 12" cabs I've played through so it's very possible we just have very different concepts of tone, too....one thing the Monique has really come in handy with for is when I'm on the road and backline companies sometimes have awful rigs for me. I just send the Monique straight into the power section and go DI out from the Monique straight into the house and I know I'm gonna sound great every night!

My teeth rattling was with a Guild Ashbory through an IP112 stack up close. The Glock just let's this hugeness through. I think this is a YMMV possibly. 4:00 would be way to extreme through my gear. The Kern through big IPs didn't get fatter. That rig was so huge outside lows and all. So I think we may be dancing around subjectively what's fat.:) This is TB and we'd have to hear these rigs next to each other.
As often happens here the difference in touch is rarely accounted for.
Enjoy that piece. I love mine too.:)

Brand new version of the NL210 in, yes, you guessed it, TWEED with Chrome corners. Does it get any better than this!

That is really nice looking. Can you give us a review, Mike?

Disclaimer: I am an EA artist!

Compared to the older NL210, the cab has a bigger yet tighter low end while retaining the clarity in the highs and mids of the older NL 210. Where the older 210 could bottom out with a REALLY dynamic player, the new 210 does not (at least I've not seen it yet). Compared to the CXL-112, the older NL210's did not take EQ as well. This one is MUCH better. I wish I had a cxl-112 handy to compare

For me it is versatile enough for the solos work (clarity) and band work (bottom, cut and volume).
