Hi folks, I have a pre Wizzy 110 at 8 ohms. Great sounding little cab. Presently I run it as a monitor for myself and the drummer in a Worship setting. I split it up to the board and mains w/ a Tech 21 DI. Works fine for this application. I power w/ an early 90's (pre-Pro) SVT III. 350 watts at 4 ohms and 200 watts at 8. I'm thinking about picking up a Wizzy 112 8 ohm to use either stand alone or w/ the 10 box for bigger rooms.

Now for the dumb question...When I link the 10 and 12 (8ohm) cabs, do I come out of the 4 ohm jack on the head? Are they parallel / 4 ohm load or series 8 ohm? Please tell this fool the ideal way to run this 2 cab combo?

That would be a 4 ohm load with both cabs, but I don't think those cabs would be the best match. I would find another EA 10 like you have now or get 2 Wizzy 12's.

Thanks Low, That's what I need to hear. I wasn't sure if a 10 and 12 would really be a good fit together. And in reality 2-10's are all I'm ever going to need. Should I seek out another older non Wizzy EA 110 or will a Wizzy be a good compliment?

I think you can only get Wizzy 10's in 4-ohms, which may not allow you to run it with your non-Wizzy 10 using your current amp.

What is this non-Wizzy 10 anyway? Are we talking about a VL-110, CXL-110?

yeah it's going to be different for everyone , for me I much prefer my new Wizzy 12 over my old CXL 10 for what I do , but they both are exceptional and of the highest quality materials and workmanship , and tones .

I've owned a number of Wizzy's and can remember only one gig that I liked with them. The VL and CXL I can say just the opposite as they are awesome sounding cabs.

Now the Wizzy's are lighter, but I'd rather carry the weight.

I agree with Peter that NL210s can handle most situations. I went to an audition last night with my NL210 and a WW Ultra. Afterwards the guitar player said when he saw me set up that he thought it was going to be "quiet". Of course I blew the wall out of the place. I use a second NL210 for large or outdoor gigs. Tons of volume, great sound quality and the vertical set up is an excellent monitor. These cabs work well with a TC RH450 or 750
an Ampeg SVT Pro 3 - I haven't found an amp they don't sound good with. I have a Berg AE 410 and an NV610 - great cabs but the NL210s get a lot of work because of the sound, size and weight.

I have a VL 110 just sitting in my basement gathering dust. Once I got the VL 208, LDS 2x8 three way and now the Thunderchild 112 the VL 110 went into permanent retirement, it was a nice cabinet though.

Without trying the combination you mentioned I wouldn't rule it out. Sometimes you can get good results even with non-matching efficiencies (keeping the ohms the same).

They list the sensitivity as 95dB, and the power handling as 400W, and they list “Sound Pressure Level” as 125dB at one meter, 4dB higher than the calculated output at 400W.

Can the VL208 handle a steady 400 Watts without going into power compression, distortion, farting, etc.?

If it is really capable of producing 125dB peaks, at what frequency, and for how long?

I haven't measured it, but IME, all of the VL series cabs could take gobtons of power and not complain about it.

The more the merrier... I'm running two VL110s with a Crown Drivecore XLS1000 bridged at 1000w+ and they've never been happier. Amazing little cabs IMO.

Now the funny thing is, I've never gotten to use all 4 of these badboys together. I use the stack on the right for touring and the stack on the left is broken up the top goes to local gigs in the city and the bottom one stays at home for practicing. Just one of them always gets the job done unless I'm doing stadiums or some huge venue. Even though I have my Trace tube head in this pic I usually use my Monique tube pre into an IAmp Pro and the sound is amazing. The VL-210B is for sure my favorite cab of all time. It can handle any amount of power you throw at it IME.

Bassdoubler, are you running the Monique into the front end of your iAmp, or into the effects return?

Wow, Brad! That's a lot of power into two tens! I've seen the woofers of my VL208 pump so vigorously that my keyboard player became worried, but I've never heard any signs of distress from it.
