I explicitly mentioned the used market. I said that the Crazy 88 and Big E are at substantially different price-points when you consider the used market. I believe that is quite correct. A used Crazy 88 can be had for under $500. So far as I know, a Big E 45 cannot be had for a price close to that. I referenced the fact that the used market on the Big E is slim. You confirmed that. So, it seems I was quite right.

Speaking of the price for these cabs new, it's pretty easy to find online that the price of a Crazy 88 runs $775 with a tweeter. I'm not aware that there's a "street price" much different than that. The price for a new Big E 45, "street" or otherwise, is not so easy for one to find unless one communicates directly with the builder. :)

I'm confused....are we talking about the Big E 4X5 or 2X5 now? I can't find the prices for the bass cabs on the Big E website (or Mike's website...which I can't even find;)!), but Mike told me last year the 4x6 is $1000+shipping. I imagine the 4x5 is cheaper, and it sounds like Mike is inferring that it is less than $775. I can't find any on my street for sale, so I can't speak to the "street price" in Burlington, VT. I imagine if one is really curious about the pricing they could contact Mike privately.

Okay, so if you are talking used, then the 88 is, as I said, substantially less expensive than the Big E 45, new or used. A used 88 in fine condition can be had for under $500. That was where I started.

I'm not sure why the price of brand new Big E products is not posted online and easy to find. I seem to recall Mike giving me a price for a new 45 that was above $775. Maybe the price has dropped, maybe my memory is faulty. Maybe it was $750 plus shipping. I scored a used 88 in pristine condition for around $450. All this could be cleared up by a definitive and authoritative statement along the lines of, "The price of a new Big E 45 is $xxx plus shipping." I can't recall the price of any similar product being held so closely to the vest.

Oh--it's not that---I'm just not supposed to state prices in the threads. To clear things up (I hope the mods don't mind) it's $750 plus shipping. Also--to avoid confusion--the 25 is $500 without and $600 with tweet. The 46 is $1000.I'm working on a web site. Hopefully my utter lack of professionalism is offset by the quality of my cabs. I know that there aren't that many 88's out there. 3 of the ones for sale were replaced by 45's.

Jeez Les---give me a break.

I can attest to the quality of Mike's work...I still regret selling my composite Crazy8 (though I needed a louder cab for most of my gigs), and it's probably a matter of time before I spring for a 4x6 or 8x5. I can also attest to the fact that if you contact him and ask a question (like, how much his cabs cost) he will respond with an answer (usually in a timely manner).

Talk about thread derailment!

6 years ago I would have been thrilled with any of the cabs mentioned. I really think that the internet and for us bass players--Talkbass-- have been instrumental for a very accelerated improvement in the gear available.

Mike,
Hopefully, I can sell of some gear and get a 4x5. Players that I've P.M. ed with my same rig have nothing but high praise for them. Had there not been TB I would have never known about Don Oatman and LDS, Duke Le June and his TC 112 and now you and the Big E's. It's quite evident to me that when people put their recently purchased Audiokinesis, TC 112's, and Crazy 88's up for sale, that the Big E's are a "game changer". Just my take.

Sorry for any upset. Really. Thank you for making the prices available. I understand that prices usually aren't mentioned in threads but there just seems to be no other public disclosure. Seems okay to list them here if people were asking. :) Oh, and I'd love to have a 45 built by you! The $$$ just aren't there right now.
