Early '70s Soul

Ah, my wheelhouse. I shouldn't even acknowledge this thread, it's already hard enough for a white boy to find a gig playing this music without letting more of you guys know more of the goods. However, in the interest of promoting pop music with actual feeling and skill, these songs must be shared. Listen to the voices. Those are singers. Pain. Love. These are mid/late 70's but the same idea. Temptations members' solo work. It goes way deeper than this but here's a start.

I agree about the singers you mention, along with Teddy Pendergrass, who made me feel what they were singing about. Nice choices, Ill.

I prefer 60s Motown mostly because the 70s Motown was really the start of the disco era. When I was in high school, music was basically divided into two camps, disco and disco sucks. I was definitely in the disco sucks camp. As I've gotten older, I've started to appreciate more of the 70s Motown and even some disco but I've always liked 60s Motown much better.

Al Green and the Hi Rhythm section ... a tuff combination to beat! Bassist Leroy Hodges what a nice guy and very humble, still very active around town. Owns a bass that once belonged to my brother, a Candy red 60s Jazz with matching headstock, I always kid him that'll buy it for the $60 he paid for it, and he always laughs and declines.
