Here's one of my favorite simple but most classic timeless bass lines of all time. From Stax records, and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Written by Al Bell, and performed by the Staple Singers.
Two more words: Commodores rule.

Great song, though I prefer the Thelma Houston version because the bass is just sooo funky.Wow, haven't thought of or listen to any of this in a long time. This is one of my favorite bass lines. Tasty as it gets, not one note to many. I like the subtle variations of the turn-around riff in the last part.
I would say that if you can play this, you are a master bass player.
