Double Bass easier romantic bass pieces

Hello, I'm just wondering if there are a few good romantic bass pieces that are easier than bottesini's works. I'm not quite up to the bottesini elegy yet, but I would like to play some beautiful lyrical and flowing pieces that are from the same time period. Is there something I should look into, maybe even something I could transcribe from another instrument?

It's not so easy to understand what you are looking for, because I don't know your level of study. But if you have talked about Bottesini's Elegia, probably you are "complete".

Here you can find a Cd called Legend in which all Danish pieces of the late Romantic period have been recorded. They were composed by Danish doublebass player Hegner. Of every piece you can download the part of double bass, and then, if you are interested in you can buy the piano score. They are very nice (and sometimes difficult, but not as Bottesini), but quite lyrical.

It's not of the same period but can give a look at Cimador's Concert in Three movement, Capuzzi's Concert in Dmaj or F Maj, Andante e Rondò by Dragonetti (earlier) and Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch, Apres un Reve by Faurè, Reverie by Bottesini, Adagio Melanconico e Appassionato by Bottesini and much other.
Later, Gliere's Intermezzo, The Swan by Saint Sans, Koussevitzky Chanson Triste, Koussevitzky Valse Miniature.
The list is quite long. Now by memory I suggest you these pieces because I like them and I've tested the same during my live concerts.

I think Vocalise it's a wonderful piece, very romantic.
I suggest you to play the main theme before at the lower octave, usually as written, and then in the higher octave ... if it's technically possible for you.

This may be too easy, but I have a soft place in my heart for this piece. It is an arrangement for bass from the original which Elgar composed for violin & piano. It is syrupy, but in a good way, similar harmonic vocabulary to his Serenade for Strings.

Une Larme by Rossini is quite beautiful and not too challenging. Also don't discount the 20th Century for lyrical melodies.

Naturally I'm Italian and I must defend Gioacchino Rossini.
It's strange that Une Larme is one of the most recorded piece.
It might seem "medium difficult", but in my opinion, as all lyrical pieces, it's very difficult if you must sing with a doublebass. Good and correct vibrato, tuning and so on have to be taken in consideration. And don't forget that Mr.Rossini wrote some of the most beautiful Arias in his incredible Operas .
