East Pre with Barts?

I think East pre amps are too extreme and my Bart/East combo is something I want change.
(The bass itself is fabulous but I'm not knocked out sound wise)

I have 5 actives and the East is my least favourite.
I should add I'm not that happy with the Bart soapbars but I did use the bass extensively until a few years ago so not that offensive.

What is it about the East you don't like?

It is just too harsh and unsubtle and I tend to run the active all the time as the output is low.

As opposed to a Glock I have which is kinder to my ears. It is the only Bart bass I have so I might try and address the mismatch but unsure which to tackle first; replace the Barts or replace the East with a Bart pre amp.

You might have a different experience but I consider this a mismatch for one reason or another.

Which model East preamp do you have? Uni-Pre or U-Retro/J-Retro?

I Have a 5 string with a set of Bartolini P25CBC's and an East uni pre. It's a 4 knob, stacked vol/bal; mid+-/mid freq; treb/bass and passive tone that is a push/pull for active/passive. Personally, I like it a lot. It's usually my go to bass. I don't really find the East harsh, but it can be pretty aggressive if you want. I actually feel it is quite a versatile pre. The Barts can go from fat and low without loosing top end to growly, or slap happy. Add to that the East pre.... I've yet to be disappointed.
