Easy field recording for pc

I'm thinking about picking up an ASUS EEE PC, and wondering about options to use it for recording rehearsals and gigs. Assuming I'm severely challenged in technical knowledge, is there a program that's as easy to use as, say, a cassette recorder? Plug in a USB mic, hit record and you're good?
