EB-0 or EB-3 mudbucker/sidewinder pickup

I am not an expert on different brand pickups, but I have a Epiphone EBO that really does it for me. I play at church 2 or 3 times a month and use my EBO there. I have many basses and could choose to play something else with a different sound if I wanted to. I know a lot of folks pooh-pooh the EBO sound, but I like that heavy thump. I can EQ the amp so I get a bit of an edge on it and frequently get positive comments from other band members and listeners.

I use other basses for other jobs but seem to get more compliments with the EBO.

Thump on,

I owned a vintage Gibson Eb0 and traded it in for equipment and another bass. Then I bought a vintage Gibson Eb3.The Eb3 was the best.Even though I enjoyed the Eb0 the added pick up on the Eb3 came in handy. It is definitely that big humbucker in the front that gives the Eb3 it's unique sound.I can relate to playing with just one large humbucker. The rich clear lows punch right through the rest of the band without resorting to raised volume.Frankly,I just love the sound of it.

Just picked up a 65 Epiphone Newport and the FIRST thing i want to ask folks is did they ever try adjusting the polepieces on the Mudbucker? Be Honest!

The very first thing i did was lower the polepieces all the way down (without hitting the bottom) and i was shocked at how much cleaner and brighter the pickup was right off the bat.

Absolutely not lacking in high end and clarity but still very fat and loud...out of 100's of threads ive read about Gibson and Epi and Kalamazoo with the 'mudbucker' in the neck i never see comments about adjusting pickup polepiece height...i LOVE this bass, neck is absolutely perfect profile & scale for my 61 year old hands! That stock 'mudbucker' aint goin nowhere.

Now, i think these basses need bigger amps with more headroom and speakers that will handle the powerful low end.
