Ebay Concerns

Ok everybody, bit of an update on what's been happening:

I haven't heard back from the seller since the 4th of August, and I've sent them about 4 emails, the last one I sent was pretty much a "final warning" email giving them 24 hours to get back to me. Well, they didn't. I gave them another 24 hours and then filed a dispute with Paypal - which I did yesterday, and I still haven't heard back...

I've been in contact with the NZ post office daily for the last 4 days to see if they can shed any light on where it might be, but nothing's happening.

Is there anything else I can do at this time? I'm pretty much tearing my hair out over it, and I'm not going to lie - I've been obsessively checking the tracking for updates etc, which of course there are none.

I've got a hugely important gig next weekend at the Skycity grand hotel, and time is swiftly running out. Coupling this deadline with the amount of money I spent on it (like I've said, I'm a student), this situation hasn't exactly been beneficial to me haha.

It did leave Chicago (according to the tracking) on the 21st of July, and was due here between the 27th of July and 3rd of August - So, am I just being impatient with the whole thing or is my concern deserving?

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry in the slightest. I've had guitars come from the USA to Australia that took well over 6 weeks. The lesson I learnt - If you want something on time, pay the extra for Fedex or DHL

Something that happens damn near every time I try to ship something to Canada or Europe is the package gets stuck in the incoming country's customs. And when it is there, tracking halts and it becomes a waiting game. So it is possible that the package is sitting in NZ customs waiting for approval to move into the local post stream.

when i buy something from the US, i usually don't think about it until the next month or so ...

there have been so many times where i got paranoid over nothing ... and yes, if you bought from stores, they usually have terrible communication.

there was a time i bought an ebow, never got to me for 30 days, emailed the ebay store 4x, they never responded, i filed a claim and i won (got my $80 back), the next day, my E-Bow showed up!!!! this was 10 more days after i filed a claim and won.

i contacted the seller and attempted to return the money... no reply.

i just sent the money to the same address.

to be honest, i don't know if the seller did accept the payment. it has been over 2 years now lol

OP, go check your mail for a letter from customs saying you owe XYZ for inspection and GST. If US Mail says it is recieved it is on its way. Sometimes that's all I get and the other half tracking shows it going through the various waypoints in the US, arriving in NZ, being received at customs, clearing customs, never shows it delivered in my PO box though.

One time the Customs idiot made a typo so the letter got sent back to them, did I panic? Get a grip!

I buy amps and basses from time to time from eBay and import into NZ - and I've made a flurry of purchases recently due to the good exchange rate. According to USPS tracking the poweramp left the States ex Florida: it took around 14 days. The Pre left via LA and took about the same time to arrive. Another item I got left from Chicago but took a lot longer than usual to arrive. Perhaps it takes a less direct route from up there.

I wouldn't sweat it. It'll come.

Downunderwonder - get off your high horse dude, you have no idea who I am and no idea what I've had to go through to get the money to pay for this amp. There's also a deadline for it to get here. My only bass amp was stolen a month ago - I've been borrowing a POS Behringer since then, and it's not up to my standards for a gigging amp. I asked for advice, not to be patronized - so please don't.

I think one thing that USPS should work on though, is the consistency with their shipping times - some people get their purchases within four days (like OzzyGreg), and some (like myself) are still waiting for a 7kg purchase three weeks later - over a week when it was expected at the latest.

Anyway, I guess there isn't much I can do for now except just hope for the best and that it gets here in time for the gig, otherwise I'll be playing a university ball with a POS 1x10 Behringer combo instead of an Ampeg SVT 7 Pro and Ashdown MAG 410...

BTW mattwear - it's the comments like the ones you've left that are the most helpful (as well as the obvious ones about getting the situation sorted), so thank you.

From my experience. Usps (postal service) is the cheapest and slowest delivery service out there. UPS fedex are quicker and have proper tracking systems but you pay a lot more for them. I sure hope they did not send it on a ship to you :bawl:

I wouldn't worry, if you don't get it after a long time (I think like two months) you can file a report with paypal and it'll get your money back from the seller's account

If the seller remains around with a current ebay/paypal account. About 5 years, I purchased a monitor which never arrived. Couldn't get a hold of the seller, opened a claim and paypal agreed with me, but could do nothing as the seller had emptied/deactivated his account. Good times.

I also sent some rack braces to a drummer in England, via USPS that took 6 weeks to arrive. No explanation given, but 6 weeks! Luckily, I had donated the items and paid for the shipping, so he wasn't upset about free items arriving late. WW

I haven't taken the time to read all the post in this tread. But I can say that I do purchase many items over the internet. that said, many items I purchase are shipped via usps. There tracking is not tracking, it is merely delivery confirmation. I have never been able to track a single shipment. They have always only updated after delivery. All these shipment have been within the continental U.S. If your looking for tracking information from our postal service, it does not exist!

For what it's worth, I'd be mighty concerned too.
I got a 7 PRO sent via UPS & it took 6 days. From Usa to Aus. & have had many things sent Usps, Fed Ex etc.... Some DO take longer than others, but if I were you.......
Do whatever you can, asap!
If the seller has done everything right, they got nothing to worry about.
Check your country's customs 1st & go from there. Let us know too.

I had a bass shipped from Seattle and it took about 5 days to get here then it sat in customs for another 5 days. When I was younger I once had 2 magazines shipped here and it took about 6 months. If it was shipped by 'air' then I'd be a little concerned, if not then it will probably be a few more weeks at least.

I'm a little more conservative now and prefer to buy locally especially after reading about other peoples bad experiences on a vinyl collectors forum, it's cool that the 7pro has a voltage selector though.

I'd be worried. The seller has gone quiet.

I've had a stack of stuff sent to Australia via USPS and tracking has been good. Apparently USPS have been having a rough time lately so that might explain delays but the seller's lack of contact would be enough to get the ball rolling on a claim.

Good luck mate.

Exactly what I said 9 days ago in post #18. The seller going stealth is a key indicator the deal has gone south (ie, your probably screwed). Hope I'm wrong though and you either receive the equipment or get a refund. WW

+1

At least in the US, customs does NOT communicate at all with the USPS, and customs likes to hold on to things, sometimes for months, for absolutely no reason.
